Alex Meletio, Sr. was born in Athens, Greece of February 2, 1878. In his early twenties, he came to the United States to visit relatives, and became so intrigued with the many opportunities that he decided to stay. During his first years in the United States, Mr. Meletio worked at a variety of jobs, which included railroading, factory worker, shopkeeper and contractor.

In 1911, Mr. Meletio married Wilhelmina Boos in St. Louis, Missouri in 1911. They resided in Chicago, Illinois, where he became a successful hardware and electrical store proprietor, and invested in real estate. Because the climate in Chicago was detrimental to his health, he came to Texas en route to California. He never continued, for the climate and business potential in Texas was what he was seeking.

After an unsuccessful oil venture in Wichita Falls, the family moved to Dallas and established its first home at 717 W. Jefferson Avenue in Oak Cliff. This address also served as the first location of Meletio Electrical Supply Company.

Meletio Electrical Supply Company was formed in 1920. In 1932 it was incorporated in the state of Texas. It is the oldest independent electrical wholesale firm in the state of Texas.
From its start in Oak Cliff, the firm moved to 2022 Main, then 2025-27 Main. In 1930, the company moved its location to 315 South Central Expressway (formerly known as Preston Street). The firm operated in downtown Dallas where it survived the Depression of the 1930's and enjoyed great success during the post World War boom years.

As the company continued to grow, Alex Sr.'s sons Alex Jr., Jack, James and George and their sons became involved in management and sales positions. In 1967, Meletio Electrical Supply took another great stride forwarded by establishing the Town North showroom located at the northwest corner of Preston Road and Forest Lane. The site of this showroom, at one time, had been the Meletio family farm.

Alex Meletio, Sr. served as president until his death on March 7, 1964, when his eldest son succeeded him, Alex Meletio, Jr.

The early 1980's saw several major changes in the make-up of the company. In 1983 Jack and his son John purchased all company stock from the other family members. Later that year the headquarters moved from downtown Dallas to it's present location at 10930 Harry Hines Blvd. and in 1984 John became President of the company.

The 1980's and 1990's still saw further change as Meletio Electrical Supply Co. focused on commercial and residential lighting. The company began shipping to restaurant and hotels internationally as well as servicing the electrical contracting and building markets in North Texas. Growth also continued in the high-end residential lighting market, as the company caters to the needs of discriminating designers and custom homebuilders.

During the early part of 2002, Ken Reiser purchased the company. Mr. Reiser has more than 25 years of commercial sales, service and national distribution experience. He began as an entrepreneur and expanded his Dallas family owned and operated flooring business to include other Texas cities. In 1996 he sold his business to a global carpet manufacturer and served as President of its national service and distribution network division.

The company has since expanded its’ offering to include other homes accessories such as table lamps, mirrors, ceiling medallions, secure mail boxes and home accessories.

The goal at Meletio is to exceed customer needs. We assure you that the high standards of quality and innovative products for luxury homes and commercial applications will remain our highest priorities. Meletio Electrical Supply is dedicated to that commitment and to the opportunity to increase our level of service in all aspects of our business.
